One-of-a-kind altered-art “Steampunk Fairy” necklace, assembled with new and vintage materials, pocket watch parts, faceted Czech glass beads, brass chain, silverplated wire and brass wire. The necklace is adjustable between 16 and 17-1/2 inches long. The fairy centerpiece measures 3 inches across, 1-1/2 inches high. Enlarged photo shows details, including words, numbers and other embellishments on the “wings.”

When I created this piece, I had recently finished reading the book Whitechapel Gods by S.M. Peters, and was inspired by the imagery of human beings being caught up in the workings of powerful machines, turning into machines themselves. I’ve been working on this item for several weeks, from inception and the search for just the right parts, through assemblage and completion.

All of my jewelry is made to the best of my ability, by my own hands, in my private studio. Please understand that the steampunk pieces are meant to be costume pieces and works of art, made with vintage materials, and as such should not be subjected to rigorous treatment. Pulling, tugging, smashing, yanking, bending, or wearing during vigorous activity (such as at a busy job, hiking, or out dancing) is not recommended. Pieces should be stored carefully when not in use. I take each piece for a “test drive,” and this item is comfortable to wear, but keep in mind that it does have pointy edges which might catch on clothing.

But you don’t have to be a FIREFLY fan to enjoy this necklace featuring a Hill Tribe Silver strawberry, real garnets, pink glass, and garnet-colored vegetarian suede (see enlargement below). Measures not-quite-18 inches long, adjustable down to about 16 inches. Other than the strawberry, which measures 3/4-inch high, all the metal bits are sterling silver. Hill Tribe Silver is made by the Karen Hill Tribe in northern Thailand using traditional tribal methods passed down from generation to generation, and is more resistant to tarnish because it has a higher silver content than sterling (which is only 92.5% actual silver metal).

Everyone’s a hero in their own way… but mostly Captain Hammer! This is my very first foray into the realm of polymer clay, inspired by Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. I used Fimo and created my own cane, yay! (Well, it wasn’t much of a “cane” — I only got a few usable pendants out of it.) I know I’ve got a lot to learn, but I think the result is still pretty fun!

I have ONE ladies necklace with the yellow beads (shown here), and ONE ladies necklace with a slightly different bead embellishment. The ladies is on 18-inch black cotton cord with a clasp. I have TWO gents necklaces, which come on thicker 20-inch black cotton cord with clasp, no beads. The pendants and the necklaces are all handmade by me. The sea is calling… The lampwork beads in this bracelet were created by Brendan Blake, an American glass artist. They look to me like he’s captured seaweed and water inside glass. I linked them with heavy 18-gauge sterling silver links, and added a lobster claw clasp, accents of Czech glass, a sterling silver mermaid charm, and a star-shaped freshwater pearl. Measures 8-inches long, but due to the size of the lampwork beads (about 10×14mm) its actual diameter fits a 7-inch wrist, resizing available upon request.
